Emirates unveils new “Game Changing” First Class Suite

Earlier today, at a worldwide media launch in Dubai, Emirates unveiled a brand new interior for its Boeing 777 Fleet. While all three cabins – Economy, Business, and First – have benefitted from the multi-million dollar upgrade, the star of the show was undoubtedly the “game-changing” First Class private suites.

With floor to ceiling sliding doors that offer complete privacy and meticulous design details inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Emirates’ new First Class suites have been unveiled little more than a week since Singapore Airlines revealed their new-look Airbus A380 First Class suites.

While some carriers have reduced the size of their first class or removed it altogether, Emirates’ new B777 First Class suites will offer up to 3.7sqm (40sq ft) of personal space each.

A fresh colour palette of soft greys, cream and champagne conveys a contemporary, open and airy feel, while an artistic motif representing the Ghaf (prosopis cineraria) tree is used as a design highlight throughout the aircraft. An indigenous evergreen plant, the Ghaf is a considered the national tree of the United Arab Emirates and has deep cultural and ecological significance.

Created in collaboration with Boeing, Rockwell Collins interior systems, Panasonic, Jacques Pierre Jean Design studio and Seattle-based design firm Teague, the fully enclosed private suites are arranged in a 1-1-1 configuration. Suites in the middle aisle feature the industry’s first virtual windows, in order to offer every passenger a view. The other suites come with binoculars for customers who want to explore the sky outside their windows.

The leather seat reclines into a fully flat bed, as well as a “zero-gravity” position inspired by NASA technology, that reportedly affords a feeling of weightlessness.

When it comes to ordering food and drinks, passengers in First class needn’t push a button – or even open the door for that matter – as there is a video call function that allows you to contact the flight staff. Your order will then be served to you through a service window.

Some of the most popular features of its previous private suites has been retained and upgraded, such as the personal mini bar, wireless controls, and Emirates’ award-winning in-flight entertainment system, ice, on which customers can view over 2,500 channels of on-demand entertainment on a 32-inch Full HD LCD TV screen, or project content from their own devices. The viewing experience has also been improved thanks to brand new Bowers & Wilkins Active Noise Cancelling E1 headphones created exclusively for Emirates.

In an original move, every suite is fitted with an “inspiration kit” that features a leather-bound notebook and pen, a luxury Byredo skincare collection, Hydra Active moisturising pyjamas, and Bulgari amenity kits that will come in four varieties for men and four for women.

Ample storage space includes a cleverly designed overhead compartment and a full-length cupboard for hanging clothes.

Emirates’ new Boeing 777 first class suites will debut on flights from Dubai to Brussels and Geneva from December 1, 2017, with Chicago tipped to follow in 2018. They will also feature on brand new Airbus A380 aircraft, although it remains to be seen when the first example will be.

Keeping in line with the luxury car theme, the airline has also confirmed that ex-Top Gear favourite Jeremy Clarkson will be the face of the product’s new promotional campaign. Commenting on his new recruit, Emirates President Sir Tim Clark said, “You may not like him, but most people find him amusing, sometimes a little irritating, but he is very impactful.”

The design and shape of Emirates’ Business Class seat on board its new 777s was also inspired by the interior of a modern sports car, with a diamond stitch pattern on the full leather cover, ergonomically designed headrest, and a sleek overall look and feel.

The seat has a pitch of 72 inches and moves into a fully-flat sleeping position. It also has touchscreen controls for the seat and in-flight entertainment system, several personal lighting options, privacy panels between seats, a shoe storage area, footrest, and a personal mini-bar.

A new Business Class seat has been slated to appear on Emirates’ new Boeing 777X jets which will take off in 2020. Emirates President Sir Tim Clark shared his vision that new 777X business class seat would “resemble what we have on the Airbus A380s upstairs.”
